Herman Ponsteen (born March 27, 1953 in Hellendoorn ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Herman Ponsteen was one of the best and most versatile Dutch track cyclists in the 1970s. He has been the Dutch champion 13 times in the disciplines single pursuit , time trial , tandem race , points race and scratch . At the UCI Track World Championships in 1973 in San Sebastián , Ponsteen started in three disciplines and won bronze twice, in the time trial and in the team pursuit and silver in the pursuit of the amateurs. In 1976 he started in the pursuit of the Olympic Games in Montreal and won the silver medal behind the German Gregor Braun .

In 1978 Herman Ponsteen turned pro. In 1979 he was in Amsterdam third in the Track World Championships and in the Track World Championships the following year in Besançon Second, each in pursuit. He also started in 18 six-day races , his best placing was third in Montreal in 1980, with Gustaaf Van Roosbroeck . As a road driver, Ponsteen was less successful, he only managed one road race victory in his entire career .
