Jeffrey Joshua Gerardus Hoogland (born March 16, 1993 in Nijverdal ) is a Dutch cyclist .
Athletic career
Jeffrey Hoogland started cycling as a BMX rider; In 2011 he took part in the Junior World Championships. Since then he has focused on track cycling . In his first year on the track, he finished eighth in the sprint and 1000-meter time trial at the Dutch track championships, and in 2012 he finished seventh in the Keirin .
In 2013 Hoogland finished third in the team sprint at the European Rail Championships (U23) together with Hugo Haak and Matthijs Büchli . In the same year he was two-time Dutch runner-up in sprint and time trial, in the Keirin he finished third. In 2014 he became European champion (U23) in the team sprint and Dutch champion in the time trial together with Matthijs Büchli and Nils van 't Hoenderdaal, and in 2015 he became European champion (U23) in the sprint. At the European Elite Track Championships in the same year, Hoogland won three gold medals, in the sprint, time trial and team sprint (with Hugo Haak and Nils van 't Hoenderdaal), making him the most successful athlete in these championships.
In 2016 Jeffrey Hoogland was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . In the team sprint he finished sixth together with Theo Bos and van 't Hoenderdaal, in the sprint he came eleventh. At the 2017 UCI Track World Championships in Hong Kong , he was runner-up in the team sprint together with Harrie Lavreysen and Matthijs Büchli . At the European Railway Championships in the same year he won three medals: gold in the 1000-meter time trial , silver in the sprint and bronze in the team sprint.
At the UCI Track World Championships in 2018 , Hoogland won gold twice: He was world champion in the 1000-meter time trial and in the team sprint (with Harrie Lavreysen , Matthijs Büchli and Nils van 't Hoenderdaal ). After winning the team sprint in races of the World Cup three times with various partners , he was again world champion in team sprint in 2019 (with Lavreysen, Roy van den Berg and Matthijs Büchli) and vice world champion in sprint. In October 2019, in front of a home crowd in Apeldoorn, he again won the title of European sprint champion. At the UCI Track World Championships 2020 in Berlin , he was once again world champion in the team sprint (with Lavreysen, van den Berg and Büchli) and vice world champion in the sprint.
Awards
In December 2018 Jeffrey Hoogland was named the Dutch “ Team of the Year ” together with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal, Harrie Lavreysen, Matthijs Büchli and Roy van den Berg . The Jaap Eden Trofee was presented to them by soccer player Rafael van der Vaart .
