Florian Georges Philippe Rousseau (born February 3, 1974 in Joinville-le-Pont ) is a French cycling coach. As an active person, he was one of the most successful track cyclists in the short-term disciplines from the 1990s to the 2000s. He achieved three Olympic victories and was world champion ten times.
Athletic career
At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , Florian Rousseau won the gold medal on the track in the 1000-meter time trial in a time of 1: 02.712 minutes ahead of the American Erin Hartwell . Four years later, at the Games in Sydney , he won two gold medals, in the keirin and in the team sprint , together with Laurent Gané and Arnaud Tournant , and he also won another silver medal in the sprint .
Florian Rousseau won the gold medal in the sprint at UCI track world championships in Manchester 1996 , Perth 1997 and Bordeaux 1998 . In the years 1997 to 2001, Rousseau was also world champion in team sprints with the French team in various casts. After he was not nominated for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he ended his cycling career.
Professional
After the end of his active career, Rousseau was coach of the French national track sprint team from 2005 to 2013. He then became director of sports at the Institut national du sport et de l'éducation physique (INSEP) to prepare French athletes for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . He also comments on cycling races for France Télévisions . Since April 2018 he has been a member of an athletes commission chaired by Martin Fourcade in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In December 2019 he was also appointed sports director of the French Athletics Federation.
Honors
In his hometown of Patay the municipal multi-purpose sports hall was named after him Stade Florian Rousseau .
