UCI Track World Championships 2002

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 92nd UCI Track World Championships took place from September 25th to 29th, 2002 in Ballerup near Copenhagen in the newly built “ Ballerup Super Arena ”. There were 15 disciplines on the program. The disciplines Keirin for women and Scratch for women and men have been added. The previous “Olympic Sprint” has been renamed “Team Sprint”.

The world championships were dominated by the team from Australia, who managed to win four of 15 gold medals and a total of 13 medals.

The Australian surprise winner in the sprint, Sean Eadie , caused a special sensation , as he competed with a full beard - unusual for a racing driver. After his victory in the sprint, he had his beard shaved off by his French competitor Arnaud Tournant in the interior of the cycling track .
