Track cycling world championships 1894

August Lehr became the first German cycling world champion in Antwerp.

The track cycling world championships in 1894 took place from August 12th to 13th in Antwerp on a 400 meter long cycle track . The host was the “International Cyclists Association”, a predecessor organization of the UCI .

There were two races for amateurs. The disciplines included an aviator race, today sprint , over 1 mile and an endurance race over 100 km, for which pacemakers were permitted for the first time. There were only a few hundred spectators at the races.

German August Lehr won the sprint, making him the first German cycling world champion.
