UCI track world championships 1997

The 87th UCI Track World Championships took place from August 27 to 31, 1997 at the Midvale Speed ​​Dome in Perth . There were twelve disciplines on the program, eight for men and four for women.

The French team won six of twelve gold medals to be won, the Australian hosts only won one.

The Italian four-wheeler was only able to defend his world championship title because of a mistake by the opponent: In the final run, the Ukrainian team had a lead of one and a half seconds one kilometer from the finish. A little later, the wheels of two Ukrainian riders touched each other and all four athletes fell. The cycling : "There was a standing ovation from the audience for the unfortunate losers, whose smile returned on the lap of honor."
