Philippe Ermenault

Philippe Ermenault (born April 29, 1969 in Flixecourt ) is a former French cyclist who mainly raced on the track and was Olympic champion and two world champions.

At the beginning of his career in competitive cycling, Philippe Ermenault was third in the French championships on the road in 1987; three years later he won a stage of the Bayern Tour . He then concentrated exclusively on track cycling and became a specialist in individual and team tracking .

In the single pursuit Ermenault won the French championship seven times between 1992 and 1999. At the UCI track world championships in 1993 in Hamar , he was runner-up in this discipline. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , Ermenault won the gold medal in the team pursuit and the silver medal in the single pursuit behind Andrea Collinelli with the French four-man track ( Christophe Capelle , Jean-Michel Monin and Francis Moreau ) .

In 1997 at the World Track Championships in Perth , Ermenault was world champion in the single pursuit and was able to successfully defend this title in front of a home crowd in Bordeaux the following year . In 1999, at the World Track Championships in Berlin, he was again runner-up with the four-man (with Cyril Bos , Francis Moreau and Jérôme Neuville ). In 2000 he ended his active cycling career. However, he is still involved in cycling as an organizer and member of the "Promotion Sport Picardie".
