Hans-Henrik Ørsted

Hans-Henrik Ørsted (born December 13, 1954 in Grenå ) is a former Danish cyclist and three-time world champion.

Hans-Henrik Ørsted was one of the strongest racing cyclists in Denmark in the late 1970s and 1980s. As an amateur, from 1975 to 1978, he won eight Danish championship titles in various disciplines, in the individual and team pursuit , in the points trial and in the individual time trial on the road.

In 1980 Ørsted took part in the Olympic Games in Moscow and won the bronze medal in the single pursuit. He then became a professional and in the same year took third place at the UCI Track World Championships in “his” discipline, the single pursuit. Even as a professional, he was seven times Danish champion in various disciplines on the track and on the road. In 1981 he won the renowned Trofeo Baracchi together with Francesco Moser in the pair time trial .

At the following track world championships, Hans-Henrik Ørsted was three times world champion in the single pursuit, three times vice world champion and twice he took third place. In 1981 and 1983 Ørsted was European Champion in Madison together with Gert Frank . Between 1981 and 1988 Ørsted started in 53 six-day races, eight of which he won, most of them together with his compatriot Gert Frank.

Hans-Henrik Ørsted is a great-grandson of the physicist , chemist and natural philosopher Hans Christian Ørsted .
