Roy Schuiten (born December 16, 1950 in Zandvoort , † September 19, 2006 in Praia do Carvoeiro , Portugal ) was a Dutch cyclist .

Schuiten achieved his greatest successes on the track : in 1974 and 1975 he became world champion in the single pursuit . In 1975 he made two attempts in Mexico City to improve the world hour record held by Eddy Merckx at the time ; however, he failed.

Schuiten also started in the road race; so he took part twice in the Tour de France , but gave up both times, and four times in the Giro d'Italia . In 1974 he won the British Milk Race and in 1975 in Frankfurt the traditional race around the Henninger Tower , in 1974 and 1975 the Grand Prix des Nations . In 1979 he won the Grand Prix Forlì , the last event of this race. After the end of his active career, he was the sporting director of the Dutch cycling team PDM-Concorde in 1985 . He later emigrated to Portugal , where he in the Horeca became active industry and geography. Roy Schuiten died of a stomach bleeding in his adopted country .
