Sergi Escobar

Sergio "Sergi" Escobar Roure (born September 22, 1974 in Lleida ) is a Spanish track and road cyclist .

Athletic career

Sergi Escobar has been one of the world's best endurance riders on the track since 2003. In 2003 he won his first bronze medal in the singles pursuit at the 2003 UCI Track World Championships . The following year he became world champion in the same discipline. In the team pursuit he was third with Carlos Torrent , Carlos Castano and Asier Maeztu . At the Olympic Games in Athens in the same year he secured bronze in the single pursuit and with the same team as in the World Championships in the team pursuit. At the Clásica de Almería road race , he finished second. He also won silver in the single pursuit at the World Track Cycling Championships . In 2006 Escobar won the overall ranking of the Vuelta a Madrid . The following year he won another bronze medal in the pursuit at the World Railroad Championships in Palma .

By 2013, Escobar had won nine Spanish championship titles in the pursuit disciplines as well as in two-man team and points competitions.
