UCI Track World Championships 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 97th UCI Track World Championships took place from March 29 to April 1, 2007 in the Palma Arena in Sant Ferran / Palma . There were 17 disciplines on the program; 33 nations were at the start.

The velodrome was built especially for the World Cup. The German architect Ralph Schürmann had refused to continue the construction because, according to his own statement, he had been supposed to deliver fudged invoices. He was then fired by the Mallorcan clients and a local architectural firm completed the construction, with costs skyrocketing. After the World Cup was over, the World Cycling Association refused to allow Deutsche Bahn to participate in further international races due to numerous structural defects. Investigations into corruption have been launched against several Mallorcan politicians. In March 2012, the former President of the Balearic Islands , Jaume Matas , was sentenced to six years in prison in the first instance.
