Tim Veldt (born February 14, 1984 in Amstelveen ) is a former Dutch track cyclist .

Athletic career

Tim Veldt was a specialist in the short-term disciplines on the track. At the UCI Track World Championships in Los Angeles in 2005 , he won the silver medal in the team sprint, together with Teun Mulder and Theo Bos . In 2008 the trio started at the Olympic Games in Beijing and finished fifth. At the 2009 World Championships in Pruszków , Veldt was third in the Omnium .

In 2006 Veldt was two-time European champion in the 1000-meter time trial and in the Omnium. He also took first places in World Cup races in team sprints , in Sydney in 2006 and in Beijing in 2007 , each with Mulder and Bos. In 2005 he was the Dutch champion in Keirin and in both 2005 and 2006 in the 1000-meter time trial . In both disciplines as well as in the sprint , he also won several podium places in national competitions. In 2016 Veldt was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he finished ninth in the Omnium.

In November 2016, Tim Veldt announced his retirement from active cycling after participating in 13 World Track Championships and three Olympic Games. He planned to study sports management at the Johan Cruyff Institute .

Tim Veldt is the son of racing driver Lau Veldt , third in the tandem championship in 1978 and ten-time Dutch track champion.
