Matthijs Büchli (born December 13, 1992 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch track cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2007 Matthijs Büchli became the Dutch youth champion in the Omnium . In the following year he won two national junior titles, in the 1000 meter time trial and in the sprint . In 2010 he finished second in the Dutch Junior Championship in the Omnium.
From 2011 Büchli started in the elite class, in the time trial he finished second and in the Keirin third at the Dutch track championships. At the Grand Prix Vienna he was third in the keirin and third in the team sprint, together with Hylke van Grieken and Rigard van Klooster . In the same line-up, the Dutch trio finished sixth at the UEC European Rail Championships in 2012 in Panevėžys, Lithuania . At the end of the same year he became the Dutch sprint champion. He won the Keirin competition at the 2012/13 Track Cycling World Cup in Aguascalientes and was also in first place in the overall standings. In 2013 he became national champion in keirin. In 2013 and 2014 he won the bronze medal in the Keirin at the UCI track world championships .
In 2016 Büchli was nominated to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he won the silver medal in the Keirin. In 2018 he took first place in the fifth round of the Track Cycling World Cup 2017/18 in Minsk in sprint, keirin and team sprint (with Roy van den Berg and Theo Bos ), and in the following season he won two world cup races in the keirin.
At the UCI Track World Championships 2018 , Büchli was world champion in team sprint with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal , Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland , and the following year he became two-time world champion in keirin and team sprint (with Lavreysen, van den Berg and Hoogland). At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2019 , he also won two titles (sprint and team sprint) and one bronze (Keirin).
Awards
In December 2018 Mattjis Büchli was named the Dutch “ Team of the Year ” together with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal, Harrie Lavreysen, Jeffrey Hoogland and Roy van den Berg . The Jaap Eden Trofee was presented to them by soccer player Rafael van der Vaart .
