Jason Francis Kenny , CBE (born March 23, 1988 in Bolton ) is a British cyclist, multiple world champion and six-time Olympic champion (as of 2016).

Athletic career

Jason Kenny competes in track cycling and has specialized in the short-term sprint and team sprint disciplines. After winning several junior titles, both on European, and on world level in 2006 and two reaching bronze medals at the European Junior Championships (U23) in 2007 in Germany , Kenny Britain qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing to represent .

With Chris Hoy and Jamie Staff won the 2008 Olympic gold medal in the team sprint. In the sprint he only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Chris Hoy and won the silver medal behind him .

In spring 2011 Kenny won the silver medal in the sprint at the UCI Track World Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn . After the French driver Grégory Baugé was deprived of the gold medal for violating the WADA reporting requirements in January 2012 because this is officially classified as a doping offense, the gold medal went to Kenny.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London , Jason Kenny won his second gold medal in the team sprint together with Chris Hoy and Philip Hindes ; he secured a third gold medal in the sprint. He won silver in the sprint at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow .

In 2016 Jason Kenny was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . He started in the sprint, keirin and team sprint disciplines and became Olympic champion in all three competitions. This made him the most successful cyclist in these games.

In September 2017 Kenny announced that he his sports career up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo will continue to pursue. After starting in Rio, he hadn't contested any more races, had married, had become a father and was thinking about a possible end to his career.

Private

Jason Kenny was engaged to cyclist Laura Trott since Christmas 2014 . Together, the couple had won ten Olympic gold medals by 2016. Their relationship was 2,012 randomly become public, as they at a beach volleyball match at the Olympic Games in London were kissing in the stands while seated in front of them , David Beckham was photographed. The golden couple of British track cycling got married on September 24, 2016 . A son was born in August 2017.

Others

In February 2016, Kenny and Trott criticized the way British officials treated the athletes. The occasion was an accident of the driver Katie Archibald with a motorcycle, in which she injured herself and received a bitter reprimand from sports director Shane Sutton . The athletes wanted to win, but they also had to have a chance to enjoy life outside of sport. However, the coaches would treat the athletes like "children".

Honors

Jason Kenny was honored with the induction into the Hall of Fame of the European cycling association Union Européenne de Cyclisme .

Kenny was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2009 and promoted to Officer (OBE) in 2013 . In 2017 he was appointed commander .
