Tomáš Bábek (born June 4, 1987 in Brno ) is a Czech cyclist who is active in short-term disciplines on the track .
Athletic career
Tomáš Bábek was born in Brno, a town with a long tradition in track cycling, where the cycling track is located, where the 1981 World Track Championships were held. In 2008 he became the U23 European champion in the 1000 meter time trial . He then started at the Olympic Games in Beijing and finished eleventh in the team sprint together with Denis Špička and Adam Ptáčník .
In April 2011, Bábek suffered serious injuries in a car accident, including serious injuries to his lungs; After that he was in a coma for three days , the doctors didn't give him much chance. Still, he woke up and after further hospitalizations and surgeries and training, he made a comeback in cycling within a year.
In 2016 Bábek became European champion in the Keirin , a few weeks later he won the Keirin competitions at the races of the Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow and Apeldoorn . In April 2017, he won the bronze medal in the Keirin at the World Track Championships in Hong Kong and, together with Quentin Lafargue, silver in the time trial, as both drivers crossed the finish line at the same time.
