Harrie Arnoldus Johannes Lavreysen (born March 14, 1997 in Luyksgestel ) is a Dutch cyclist.
Athletic career
Harrie Lavreysen started his cycling career at the age of six as a BMX rider. As such, he was multiple Dutch youth champions and European youth champions. However, a serious shoulder injury prevented him from continuing this discipline, and he switched to track cycling .
In 2016 Lavreysen was the Dutch runner-up in the sprint and bronze in the keirin . In 2017 he immediately became two-time vice world champion , in the sprint and together with Jeffrey Hoogland and Matthijs Büchli in the team sprint. In the same time he was U23 European champion in Keirin and won silver in the sprint.
In 2018 Harrie Lavreysen became world champion in the team sprint with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal , Matthijs Büchli and Jeffrey Hoogland and European champion with Hoogland, Roy van den Berg and van' t Hoenderdaal ; at the EM he also won bronze in the sprint. In the following year he became, among other things, two-time world champion in the team sprint and sprint as well as European champion in the Keirin and won four competitions in the World Cup. In 2020 he became three-time world champion in sprint, keirin and team sprint in Berlin (with Jeffrey Hoogland, Roy van den Berg and Matthijs Büchli).
Awards
In December 2018, Harrie Lavreysen received the Gerrie-Knetemann-Trofee for the “Young cyclist of the year” of the Netherlands. Together with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal, Matthijs Büchli, Jeffrey Hoogland and Roy van den Berg, he was named the Dutch “ Team of the Year ”. The Jaap Eden Trofee was presented to them by soccer player Rafael van der Vaart .
