The UEC-track European Championships Junior / U23 2017 (2017 UEC Jun / U23 European Championships Track) found from 18 to 23 July 2017 in Portugal Sangalhos in the local Velódromo Nacional instead. This is the fifth time that the European Championships for the U23 and Juniors classes have been held in Sangalhos after 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Around 380 athletes started. 59 juniors, 113 juniors, 88 women (U23) and 123 men (U23) from 25 countries were registered. 44 titles were awarded.
In the nations ranking, the team from Italy won ten gold medals and a total of 14 medals. Most of the medals went to the endurance riders, outstandingly junior Letizia Paternoster , who started in five disciplines and took gold in all of them. In the qualification of the single pursuit over 2000 meters, she also set a new junior world record with 2: 20.92 minutes. Second place in the medal table went to Russia with seven gold medals and a total of 20 medals, ahead of Great Britain with 24 medals, six of which were gold. France took fourth place, also thanks to the excellent performance of junior Mathilde Gros , who won the sprint , 500-meter time trial and Keirin disciplines and took silver in the team sprint. Among the U23 endurance riders, Briton Mark Stewart won gold in the Omnium and in the single pursuit. The Russian junior trio Daniil Komkow , Dmitri Nesterow and Pawel Rostow set a new junior world record in the team sprint with 44.460 seconds .
The team of the Association of German Cyclists came in seventh with a total of nine medals, including two gold medals. The four-time junior world champion Pauline Grabosch won the 500-meter time trial of the U23, and - surprisingly - Tatjana Paller won the points race. Switzerland won three medals, one silver and two bronze.
