Mauro Schmid (born December 4, 1999 in Bülach ) is a Swiss cyclist who competes on track and road as well as cross-country races .

Athletic career

Mauro Schmid's beginnings in cycling were in cyclo-cross racing, where he was mainly active until 2016. In 2017, he finished second at the Swiss road championships in the road race and in the individual time trial as well as in the junior cyclo-cross race . In the same year he won two bronze medals at the European Junior Championships on the track, in the points race and with Scott Quincey , Valère Thiébaud and Alex Vogel in the team pursuit . He started in the individual time trial of the juniors at the UCI Road World Championships 2017 and finished 22nd, in the road race he finished 30th. At the UCI Track World Championships for Juniors in 2017 he finished with Aurèle Paroz , Valère Thiébaud and Alex Vogel with 4: 04.299 Minutes a new Swiss record, with which the Swiss four finished fifth.

In 2018 Schmid was second overall in the Tour of Black Sea and he was third in the national championship in the single track pursuit . In the fall of that year he was nominated for his first start in the elite on the track, and he started in the first run of the World Cup . At the last round of the World Cup in Hong Kong , the Swiss four-man finished fifth with Schmid. In 2019, Mauro Schmid was part of the squad for the 2019 UCI Track World Championships in Pruszków, Poland .
