from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UEC-track European Championships Junior / U23 2018 (2018 UEC Jun / U23 European Championships Track) found from 21 to 26 August at the World Cycling Center in Switzerland Aigle instead.

Originally host the European Championships in was Italian Montichiari in the local Velodromo Fassa Bortolo planned. This would mean that the European Championships for the U23 and Juniors classes would have been held there for the second time since 2016. A few weeks before the start of the competitions, however, the championships were canceled. Since water seeped through the roof of the Velodrome and a fire protection certificate was missing, the runway was closed by the fire department.

A total of 343 drivers (52 juniors, 108 juniors, 71 U23 women and 112 U23 men) from 25 countries were registered for the championships, of which 317 started. A total of 44 titles were awarded.

As in 2017, the Italian drivers dominated the Junior / U23 European Championships with a total of 21 medals - 13 gold, five silver and three bronze, followed by Russia (9, 6 and 7) and Belgium (6, 4 and 3). The Italian juniors were particularly successful in the endurance disciplines. Vittoria Guazzini won three titles (in the Omnium , the single pursuit and the two-man team driving , the latter discipline together with Gloria Scarsi , who was also successful in the scratch , elimination and team pursuit , Letizia Paternoster won gold in the elimination and in the Omnium. Miriam Vece won also in the short-term sprint and 500-meter time trial disciplines, while the Russian athletes dominated the short-term disciplines, with junior Jana Tischenko alone winning four titles.

The drivers won a total of twelve medals, including the U23 European Championship title in the singles pursuit through Felix Groß . The Swiss drivers won a total of four medals.
