Stefan Bissegger (born March 13, 1998 in Weinfelden ) is a Swiss cyclist .
Athletic career
As a junior driver, Bissegger attracted international attention when he took eighth place at Le Pavé de Roubaix , the junior competition in Paris-Roubaix . In the same year, together with Gino Mäder , Robin Froidevaux and Reto Müller, he won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the junior track world championships . In 2016 he became the junior world champion in the single pursuit in Aigle, Switzerland, with a new world record time of 3: 12.416 minutes . In the same year, Bissiger took part in the first run of the Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow as a junior rider as a member of the Swiss men's four-four, which came fourth in the team pursuit.
In his first year as an adult, he became Swiss champion in Keirin , elimination and points races in track cycling . In 2018 he won the Swiss team the silver medal at the elite European railway championships and the U23 European championships .
In 2019, Bissiger was also increasingly successful in road cycling : He won his first international elite race on the road with a stage of the New Zealand Cycle Classic . This was followed by four more victories in UCI road races, the Swiss championship title in the U23 individual time trial and the bronze medal in the individual time trial of the U23 European Championships . In the U23 road race of the World Championships , Bissegger crossed the finish line in third place. But since the first at the finish, the Dutchman Nils Eekhoff , was disqualified, he moved up to second place. He also won the 2019/20 Track Cycling World Cup in Cambridge (New Zealand) with the Swiss track four .
Even before the 2019 Road World Championships, it was announced that Bissinger would start for the UCI WorldTeam EF Pro Cycling after the 2020 Olympic Games , where he plans to start in the team pursuit . A commitment for the transition period with the Monti team , which was supposed to function as the farm team for the Deceuninck-Quick-Step team, came to an end after this team got into financial difficulties. Bissinger said that he will be riding for the Swiss national team until he takes up his contract with EF Pro Cycling.
