Walter Baumgartner (cyclist)

Walter Baumgartner (born October 4, 1953 in Weiach ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

In 1977, Walter Baumgartner with the Swiss railway quad ( Daniel Gisiger , Hans Känel and Robert Dill-Bundi ) third in the Track World Championships in Venezuela's San Cristobal in the Team Pursuit . Also in 1977 he took third place in the Klingnau reservoir tour . At the UCI-Bahn World Championships in Munich in 1978 he was second in the points race and again third in the team pursuit, with Urs Freuler , Känel and Dill-Bundi. In 1978 he also won the Swiss title in the points race. He was also successful in road races, winning the national title in the team time trial in 1979 . As an amateur he started for VC Binningen.

In 1983 Baumgartner was third at the World Track Championships in Zurich in the standing race . The following year he won a stage of the Tour de Suisse .

Walter Baumgartner is the father of the racing cyclists Tobias and Benjamin Baumgartner.
