Hans Känel

Hans Känel (born May 3, 1953 in Bargen ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

Hans Känel was active as a competitive cyclist from the mid-1970s to the end of the 1980s, and as a professional from 1982 to 1987 . He was successful on the road and rail . As an amateur he started for the Olympia Biel club and later for VC Binningen. As a professional and as an amateur, he won a total of eight Swiss championship titles on the track, in the individual pursuit , in the team pursuit , in the 1000-meter time trial and in the points race . He was also successful on the road, winning the national title in the team time trial in 1979 . At the UCI track world championships in 1977 in San Cristobal , Känel won the bronze medal in the team pursuit together with Walter Baumgartner , Daniel Gisiger and Robert Dill-Bundi, as well as at the track championships in 1979 with Baumgartner, Dill-Bundi and Urs Freuler . In Moscow , at the 1980 Olympic Games , the Swiss team finished eighth in the pursuit (with Känel, Dill-Bundi, Freuler and Hans Ledermann ). In 1984 Känel was runner-up in the Dernyrennen . He started in 25 six-day races ; In 1983 he won the Launceston award together with his compatriot Urs Freuler.

In 1982 Hans Känel took part in the Tour de France , but gave up after the 17th stage.

After retiring from active cycling, Känel got involved in organizing cycling races in Switzerland.
