Bargen is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
There is also a civic community and a reformed parish under the name Bargen .
geography
Bargen is located in the Grosse Moos , a flat, fertile area in the Seeland , which the Aare has created as a wide alluvial fan since the last Ice Age.
The neighboring communities on the south side are Kallnach , Siselen , Walperswil , Kappelen , Aarberg and Radelfingen . The border to Radelfingen is formed by the Aare , which is diverted into the Hagneck Canal in Aarberg and only flows to a small extent as the Alte Aare in the original river bed. Bargen is bounded in the north by the Hagneck Canal. 70.1% of the community area is agricultural.
history
The early county of Bargen , which at the time of the Burgundian kings stretched from the Aare to the Jura valleys, got its name from Bargen . There was also a Cluniac priory with a hospital, which is mentioned in a papal bull from 1139.
The 1st Jura water correction brought the Hagneck Canal to the community, and at the beginning of the 20th century the underwater canal of the Kallnach power station was added to the west .
economy
In addition to the butcher's shop, which also sells dairy products, bread and other groceries, Bargen has a vegetable and fruit shop and three restaurants. The brewery, founded in 2006, produces beers for local trade and gastronomy. Various former commercial and service companies such as the cheese dairy, the bank and the post office have been closed.
traffic
Bargen is on the Lyss - Kerzers railway line and has its own train station. Until a few years ago, this consisted of a small wooden house in which tickets used to be sold and the level crossing barrier was operated manually. The wooden house burned down on February 6, 2005 due to vandalism. After only a temporary solution had existed for a few years, the SBB equipped the stop with a waiting room and a higher platform in 2009 as part of the regional train station modernization project.
The village is on the main road from Aarberg to Kerzers. The main road in the direction of Siselen - Ins begins in Bargen.
