Location of the municipality

Worben is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

Worben used to consist of two parts of the village, Oberworben and Unterworben. Today the parts of the village have largely grown together and form a long street village .

The municipality borders in alphabetical order on Jens , Kappelen , Lyss and Studen .

politics

In addition to the residents' community, there is also a civic community . The legislature is formed by the municipal assembly . The parish council has seven members.

The voting shares of the parties at the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 36.9%, SP 18.4%, BDP 18.2%, FDP 7.0%, EVP 4.9%, glp 4.7%, GPS 4.2 %, SD 2.2%, EDU 1.8%, CVP 0.9%.

Water pollution

The water in Worben contains more chlorothalonil than allowed. The canton wanted to ban the plant protection product if the federal government had not issued a national ban. In mid-December 2019, however , the Federal Office for Agriculture issued a national ban that will come into force on January 1, 2020. Because of the excessive pollution, the Seeländische Wasserversorgung (SWG) had to take one well off the grid - another four are to follow.
