Hagneck is located in the Bernese Seeland on the south bank of Lake Biel at the mouth of the Hagneck Canal . The neighboring communities starting from the north in a clockwise direction are Täuffelen , Walperswil , Siselen and Lüscherz .

The place name is first reliably documented as Hagenegg in 1425 . It is made up of the words hag and egge / ecke and means, for example, 'terrain ledge in the enclosure'.
