Municipality in Switzerland

The mixed municipality is a special form of municipality in the Swiss cantons of Bern and Jura .

The Mixed community is the association of municipality ( political community ) and civil community (in the cantons of Bern and Valais Burgergemeinde called).

The aim is to eliminate the disadvantages of church dualism . The civic estates are administered by the authorities of the community instead of their own civic community. However, the citizens' assembly and not the local community assembly still decides on the admission of new citizens and the sale of Burgergut.

This type of municipality was officially introduced in the municipal organization law of the canton of Bern of 1852, but in fact existed in many municipalities of the Bernese Jura at that time (today the Bernese Jura , canton Jura and Laufental ) from 1836.

The vast majority of the municipalities in both the canton of Bern and the canton of Jura are now mixed municipalities.
