Location of the municipality

Schüpfen is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The villages and hamlets of Allenwil, Bundkofen, Bütschwil, Saurenhorn, Schüpberg, Schwanden , Winterswil and Ziegelried belong to Schüpfen .

geography

The community is located on the eastern edge of the Bernese Seeland. Its territory includes the southern slope of the Rapperswiler plateau, the Schwandenberg and the northern slope of the Frienisberg. It is traversed by the Lyssbach and lies at an altitude of 490 to 728 m above sea level. M.

Schüpfen borders on Grossaffoltern and Rapperswil in the north, Münchenbuchsee in the east, Diemerswil , Kirchlindach and Meikirch in the south and Seedorf in the west.

history

Schüpfen is said to be one of the oldest settlements in Zealand . Some of Schwanden's buildings were mentioned as early as the 11th century . The "Steg zu Schwanden" has been recorded since 1271 . In the event of disputes, this pier served as a meeting place for people from Büren and Bern, as determined in the 1336 civil law contract. The name Schüpfen comes from the Alemannic era and was first mentioned in 1208 as Scuphon (barn, shed).

politics

The legislature is formed by the municipal council, the municipal president (executive) is Peter Gerber ( BDP , as of January 2018). In addition to another seat of the BDP, the parties SVP (two seats) and SP (three seats) are represented in Schüpfen .

The voting shares of the parties in the 2019 National Council election were: SVP 32.4%, BDP 12.5%, SP 16.8%, GPS 13.1%, FDP 6.0%, glp 8.8%, EPP 3.1 %, EDU 1.3%, CVP 0.9%.

economy

Agriculture and forestry are at the fore here. There are several industrial establishments in Schüpfen, including a brick factory , a sawmill and a flour mill . The Stuber & Cie AG joinery is an important employer with around 50 employees. There are also two larger transport companies and a packaging wholesaler.

Two financial institutions are represented in the community: Raiffeisenbank Grauholz and UBS . The following shops can also be found in Schüpfen: Coop , Spar , Landi , Avec.

Schüpfen has 3,753 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016), of which 264 are of foreign origin.
