Vinelz (French: Fenis ) is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
Vinelz is a so-called mixed community . Together with Lüscherz there is an evangelical reformed parish .
geography
Vinelz is located in the Grosse Moos , a particularly fertile area with almost black soils in the Bernese Seeland . At the same time, it is on the south bank of Lake Biel . The neighboring communities starting from the north in a clockwise direction are Lüscherz , Brüttelen , Ins and Erlach .
Vinelz should not be confused with the Biel district of Vingelz, which also borders Lake Biel .
politics
The mayor is Rita Bloch (as of 2017).
The voting shares of the parties in the 2019 National Council election were: SVP 29.2%, BDP 11.3%, SP 12.2%, FDP 7.7%, GPS 15.3%, glp 7.2%, EVP 2.0 %, EDU 0.6%, JF 1.2%, CVP 0.8%.
Culture
Club 172 is located on the premises of the former Landi branch.
Attractions
The Romanesque church, which is reformed today, was probably built in the years after 1200 and first mentioned in 1228. After 1300 wall paintings were created that are still well preserved. The oldest bell in the tower is around 400 years old, and two more are over 100 years old.

Personalities
- Burkhard von Fenis (* around 1040; † 1107), Bishop of Basel from 1072 until his death, was born in Vinelz.
- Walter Lüthi (1901–1982), Protestant pastor and preacher, worked here from 1925 to 1931 as a pastor.
