Dotzigen is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . In addition to the residents' community, there is also a civic community .

Dotzigen is located in the Seeland at the foot of the Dotzigen / Stedtliberg. It borders on Busswil bei Büren , Büetigen , Schwadernau , Scheuren BE , Meienried , Büren an der Aare and Diessbach bei Büren . The Alte Aare flows through it in the west , there is a now protected floodplain on both sides of its banks.

In 1852, the young Friedrich Baumann was in charge of the bridge construction carried out in Haustein near Dotzigen, which was connected to the railway network in 1876 with the Lyss – Solothurn railway line . Today the train only runs to Büren an der Aare , on the other side to Kerzers . Dotzigen can be reached by private transport via the A5 (Solothurn-Biel).

In addition, the level stone is a reminder of the ferry service before the first correction of the Jura waters on the Alte Aare between Dotzigen and Meienried .

The correction of the waters of the Jura made it possible to expand the village into the flat municipal areas. Jeremias Gotthelf writes in Die Käserei in der Vehfreude, Eugen Rentsch, Erlenbach-Zürich, 1922, pp. 12-13 : The speech went back and forth more and more quickly, the more the glorious Dotziger, and indeed the shadowy side, the good people's tongue solved. [...] The half-grown Dotziger had already worked, courage and boldness crept (we can't say roared) through all bones [...] . In the notes of the book, this statement is explained with the sour Dotziger wine, which grew and is still growing at the foot of the Dotzigenberg. Because of the lack of lake and a lot of fog, the location is not particularly suitable for viticulture.

In Dotzigen, in addition to the local primary school, there is an upper school center for Dotzigen and the surrounding communities of Diessbach bei Büren and Büetigen . The next high school is in Biel / Bienne .

Attractions

At the foot of the Dotzigenberg there is a small castle, with its copper roof it can be seen from afar. At the exit of the village in the direction of Diessbach there is an old flour mill with a water wheel drive. This has been restored and is open to visitors by appointment.
