Hermigen (in local dialect [ ˈheɾməˌɾɪɡ̊ə ]) is a political municipality with its own municipality and civic community in the Seeland administrative district of the Swiss canton of Bern .
history
The oldest evidence of the presence of people in today's parish area may go back to the Mesolithic . Burial mounds have been found from the Hallstatt period; there are also traces from Roman times . The earliest documented evidence of the place name as Hermeringen comes from the year 1249; It is a derivation of the Old High German personal name Her (i) mar with the affiliation suffix -ing- .
The place became part of Bern in 1398 and, together with Merzligen , formed the judicial district of Hermigen in the Landvogtei Nidau until 1798 .
In the early 1980s, drilling for crude oil was carried out in Hermigene , but it was stopped after a while. The production of natural gas is still planned .
