Bellmund (in local dialect treeing [ ˌb̥æumʊŋ ]; French Belmont ) is a village and a political municipality in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne in the Swiss canton of Bern .

geography

Bellmund lies on a terrace between the Jäissberg or Jensberg and the Oberholz south of Biel / Bienne . The neighboring communities starting from the north and clockwise are Port , Jens , Merzligen , Hermigene , Sutz-Lattrigen and Ipsach .

history

The first traces of settlement date from Roman times, a medieval fortification, called the Chnebelburg , is located on top of the Jäissberg . Recently, foundations of a church were found on the Hohlenweg, hence the abbot's staff in the coat of arms. In 1107 the priory of the monastery of Cluny apud Bellum Montem was extended, but then moved to St. Petersinsel before 1127 .

The agglomeration community has 1689 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) and is 89.93% German-speaking. 6.5% of the population are French-speaking.

politics

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the National Council elections in 2015 were: SVP 28.4%, FDP 19.4%, BDP 15.4%, SP 14.5%, glp 7.1%, GPS 5.5%, EPP 3.7 %, CVP 2.0%, EDU 1.5%, pirates 1.3%.
