Aegerten (in local dialect : [ ˈæg̊əɾtə / ˈæg̊əɾd̥ə ]) is a municipality in the Biel / Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . In addition to the community of residents, there is also a community of citizens under this name.

Surname

The place name appears for the first time in 1214 as a designation of origin for a Rodulfus de Egedun and is later documented several times in the form Egerdon . It is the locativically used dative of the singular from mhd. Egerde / egerte 'fallow land, unsuitable land for arable farming'. In the time of the so-called Aegertenwirtschaft , as the forerunner of the three-field economy, Aegerte (n) referred to a piece of land that, after two years of use as arable land, lay fallow for as long.

The neighboring communities are Studen , Jens , Port , Brügg and Schwadernau . Aegerten has now grown together with Brügg, Studen and Schwadernau.

population

Aegerten is 90.92% a German-speaking community. 4.21% are French-speaking.

politics

Stefan Krattiger has been mayor since 2010 (as of January 2018).

Aegerten had been investigating mergers with the neighboring municipality of Brügg since around 2004. However, in 2011 it was decided not to pursue the project any further. The following political parties are active in village politics: local association (bourgeois party) and SP-Aegerten with free voters (center / left). The voting behavior of the citizens is rather bourgeois, but Aegerten has a center / left government.

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the National Council elections in 2015 were: SVP 38.9%, SP 23.0%, BDP 14.6%, FDP 8.2%, glp 4.1%, EPP 3.2%, GPS 2.4 %, EDU 1.9%, CVP 1.7%.
