history

Traces of settlement by Stone Age people can be found in Lengnau . A short piece of Roman wall, which was found during excavations for the water reservoir of the Lochbach spring, points to the Roman era . There are also written sources that Lengnau must have existed before the year 1000. In 1997 the millennium of Lengnau was celebrated. Documents from the Einsiedeln monastery show that a Lampertus donated a piece of land to the monastery in Lengnau in 997. These are the only reliable indications that a Lengenach settlement was founded .

In the 11th century Lengnau belonged to the rule of the Counts of Strassberg . Ecclesiastically Lengnau belonged to the diocese of Lausanne . In 1228 Lengnau is mentioned under the name Lengieuwa in connection with a church or chapel that was consecrated to Saint Germanus. In the war of Duke Leopold of Austria against Solothurn in 1318 - only three years after the Battle of Morgarten - the Freiburgers ravaged Lengnau. The church was also destroyed in the chaos of war.

Count Imer von Strassberg, the last of his line, had to pledge his rule to Solothurn. Politically, the village shared the fate of the Strassberg. Lengnau came to the Counts of Neu-Kyburg . The agreement between the Kyburgers and the cities of Bern and Solothurn had been tense for a long time. After the battle of Sempach , the Bernese conquered Büren in 1388 and Lengnau fell to Bern.

The Schlup company , now Rado , has been based in Lengnau since 1917 . Among other things, she manufactured pin escapements and armature shafts.

The football club FC Lengnau , which was represented in the National League B from 1956 to 1960, is based in Lengnau .
