Orpund (in local dialect Orpung [ ˌɔɾˈpuŋ / ˈoːɾpuŋ ], French Orpond (es) ) is a municipality in the Biel / Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The political community, also known as the community of residents , includes the village of Orpund, the former Premonstratensian monastery of Gottstatt and the hamlet of Zihlwil . Orpund is a civic community with the same borders .

The neighboring communities of Orpund in the north, starting clockwise, are Safnern , Scheuren , Schwadernau , Brügg and Biel / Bienne . The Aare in the Nidau-Büren Canal forms the southern municipal boundary .

history

Finds in various places in the municipality attest to the permanent presence of people since the Neolithic . The place has been documented as Orpunt / Orpont / Or ( t ) variegated since 1255 . The place name is derived from a Latin addition * (ad) aur (e) um pontem , "at the golden yellow bridge".

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the National Council elections in 2015 were: SVP 37.0%, SP 24.5%, BDP 10.9%, FDP 7.8%, GPS 5.0%, EPP 4.1%, glp 3.6 %, EDU 3.2%, CVP 1.7%.

In Orpund, two parties with local groups are currently (as of 2017) active, the SVP and the SP .
