Patrick von Gunten (born February 10, 1985 in Biel / Bienne ) is a former Swiss ice hockey player who was under contract with EHC Kloten in the National League for many years .
Career
Von Gunten began his career in the youth teams of the EHC Biel and made his debut in the National League B (NLB) for his club in the 2002/03 season . In 2004 and 2006 he became NLB master with the EHC. At the end of the 2005/06 season he moved to the EHC's partner club, the Kloten Flyers. There he played alongside Radek Hamr and scored six goals and 17 assists in 44 games this season. After the 2006/07 season he was named Newcomer of the Year by NLA for his performances . After the 2010/11 season, von Gunten drew a contractual release clause for a transfer abroad and moved to the Frölunda Indians in Sweden. In February 2012 von Gunten was again committed by the Flyers, with the contract valid from the 2012/13 season.
Von Gunten retired from competitive sports for health reasons at the end of 2018.
International
Von Gunten took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2005 and the U18 World Championship in 2003 . In preparation for the 2007 World Cup, he was also used in test matches of the men's national team , but did not make it into the squad for the tournament. In 2010 he took part with the national team at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . In 2012 von Gunten took part in an A World Championship for the first time .
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the silver medal with it.
