The 29th ice hockey world championships of the U20 juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF were the ice hockey world championships of 2005 in the age group of the under-20s (U20). Between December 13, 2004 and January 16, 2005, a total of 40 national teams took part in the six tournaments of the top division and divisions I to III.
For the eleventh time, Canada's team was the world champion, defeating arch-rivals Russia 6-1 in the final . The German team could not keep the class after the promotion in the previous year and relegated to Division I, Switzerland took eighth place in the top division and thus just secured relegation. Austria was third in Group A of Division I and thus missed the immediate return to the top division.
