Career
Belle first played with the Knights of Columbus Squires , before he came to league rivals Tri-City Americans in 2000 via the Regina Pats from the Western Hockey League , who had selected him in tenth place in the WHL Bantam Draft 2000 in the first round . With the Americans Belle was active until the summer of 2005 and was selected during this time in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the first round in 30th place by the St. Louis Blues from the National Hockey League . Even before the defender played a game for the franchise , they had ceded his transfer rights for goalkeeper Jason Bacashihua to the Dallas Stars .
From the fall of 2005, Belle ran for the farm team Iowa Stars in the American Hockey League , to which he remained loyal for a year. In March 2006 he was given by Dallas together with Martin Škoula to the Minnesota Wild , who in return gave Willie Mitchell and a second-round vote in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft to stars. In the Wild franchise, the defender played the following two game years up to the summer of 2008 mainly for the Houston Eros in the AHL, and also made his NHL debut in the 2006/07 season . Another transfer deal followed in July 2008, which brought him to the Montréal Canadiens in exchange for Corey Locke . There he was largely active for the Hamilton Bulldogs farm team until summer 2010 . In July 2010, Belle moved to the Edmonton Oilers as a free agent for one year , hoping to be able to hold their own in the NHL in the long term. However, this did not succeed and so he came mostly to missions for the Oklahoma City Barons . In February 2011 he made an early move for Kevin Montgomery to the Colorado Avalanche .
After he hadn't found a new team in North America in the summer of 2011, he received a trial contract with Adler Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League in September , which resulted in a long-term commitment. During his two seasons with the Eagles, his qualities as a so-called enforcer were particularly appreciated, so u. a. his use against Sven Felski after his check on Yannic Seidenberg in the season game against the Eisbären Berlin on January 15, 2012.
In June 2013 he accepted an offer from the highest Swedish ice hockey league from Färjestad BK , but after one season the option for a following year was no longer drawn by the Swedish club.
Belle signed a contract with KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the KHL for the 2014/15 season , but this was terminated in August 2014 due to a reoccurring injury at Belle - without being used for his new club.
On November 10, 2014 Shawn Belle - as a replacement for the injured Tim Conboy - was signed up by the Düsseldorfer EG from the DEL for the 2014/15 season, but his contract was not extended after this season.
In July 2015 it was announced that Belle has ended his playing career and that he will be active as an ice hockey coach in the Alberta Junior Hockey League .
