Jason Michael Bacashihua (born September 20, 1982 in Dearborn Heights , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Deggendorfer SC from the DEL2 since 2018 .
Career
Jason Bacashihua began his career as a hockey player in the junior team Chicago Freeze, for which he was active from 1999 to 2001 in the North American Hockey League . He was then selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as a total of 26th player by the Dallas Stars , for whom he never played. Instead, the goalkeeper ran in the 2001/02 season for the Plymouth Whalers in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . There he was able to convince right away and was elected to the all-rookie team of the Canadian Hockey League , the umbrella organization of the top Canadian junior leagues. In addition, with 2.34 goals conceded per game, he was the rookie with the lowest average goals conceded in the OHL, for which he received the FW “Dinty” Moore Trophy . Since his team also had the lowest average goals conceded in the OHL, he received the Dave Pinkney Trophy . Towards the end of the 2001/02 season he was also in his first senior professional game for the Utah Grizzlies in the American Hockey League on the ice. He also played for the team in the following three years.
On June 25, 2004, the Dallas Stars, who still held his transfer rights, transferred Bacashihua to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Shawn Belle . In his freshman year at his new club, he played exclusively for St. Louis' AHL farm team Worcester IceCats during the lockout in the National Hockey League in the 2004/05 season . In the following two seasons he ran regularly for the St. Louis Blues in the NHL, but could not build on his achievements in the AHL and in the junior area and had in 38 games, of which he could win only seven, a goal conceded of 3.19 on. He was also on the ice for the new AHL farm team of the Blues, the Peoria Rivermen . After he had also started the 2007/08 season with the Rivermen, he moved to the Colorado Avalanche on November 8, 2007 , for whose AHL farm team he competed in the following two seasons. He was also given for a game to the Johnstown Chiefs from the ECHL .
On July 31, 2009 Bacashihua signed a contract as a free agent with the Hershey Bears from the AHL. With his new team he immediately won the Calder Cup in the 2009/10 season , but as the third goalkeeper behind Michal Neuvirth and Braden Holtby with 22 appearances in the regular season, he did not have enough games to engrave his name on the cup itself allow. For the 2010/11 season , the former national goalkeeper returned to the Colorado Avalanche, but was again only used in their AHL farm team. On July 19, 2011, Bacashihua received a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers , but spent the entire season with the Adirondack Phantoms farm team . On July 22, 2012, the goalkeeper moved to the Straubing Tigers from the DEL , where he received a one-year contract. After a good season for the American, in which he was named "Player of the Season" by the fans, the Tigers announced that the collaboration with Bacashihua will be extended by one year. In his second season in Germany he played a similar number of games and again scored 2.64 goals against. In his third season Bacashihua could not build on the performances of the first two seasons, whereupon his expiring contract was not extended and he left the Tigers.
In July 2015 he was signed for one year by HC 05 Banská Bystrica from the Slovak Extraliga . With the HC 05 he won the Slovak championship in 2017 and convinced with the league- wide lowest goals against goals (2.05). After this success he left Slovakia and was signed by High1 from the Asia League Ice Hockey .
International
For the USA , Bacashihua took part in the junior division exclusively in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2002 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 2006 and 2007 World Championships , in which he came to a total of four missions.
