Goals Against Average

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The goals against average or the goals against average (abbreviated GAA or GTS , sometimes also 60Avg ) is part of the goalkeeper statistics in ice hockey and lacrosse . The value does not refer to the goalkeeper's stakes, but to the total played minutes. It is calculated by multiplying the number of goals conceded by 60 and then dividing by the minutes of play. The result is a decimal number and shows how many goals the goalkeeper conceded on average in a game standardized to 60 minutes.

In general, the catch rate or save percentage is understood as a more accurate statistic of a goalkeeper's performance, as it also takes into account the number of shots fired at him. The goal conceded is therefore also dependent on the defensive performance of the team, more precisely on the average number of opponents allowed shots.

In ice hockey, a value of around 2.5 goals conceded and below is considered good. In lacrosse, values of nine to ten goals conceded are the standard.
