Manuel Schäffler (born February 6, 1989 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a German football player . The striker has been in the squad of the second division club 1. FC Nürnberg since August 2020 . Before that, he played 255 times in the 2nd Bundesliga for TSV 1860 Munich , MSV Duisburg , FC Ingolstadt 04 and SV Wehen Wiesbaden . In addition, Schäffler was active seven times for the German U20 .

Schäffler began playing football at TSV Moorenweis and moved to TSV 1860 Munich in 2001. The young attacker played his first game in the U23 of the sixties on March 11, 2007 in the regional league game of the little lions with the second team of VfB Stuttgart , where he came on in the 62nd minute. By the end of the season he was substituted on in three other games. In the 2007/08 season Schäffler was an integral part of the regional league team, he scored seven goals in 24 games.
TSV 1860 Munich (on loan to MSV Duisburg)
In the summer of 2008, Schäffler was appointed to the professional squad by coach Marco Kurz . He made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on February 22nd, 2008 in a game at 1. FC Köln . In the first half of the 2008/09 season he was used regularly, but he was denied scoring. At the game in Mainz on the 19th match day, in which he played his 18th game as a professional, he finally scored his first goal. He was also able to convince in the following league games and was therefore voted player of the day of the 2nd Bundesliga by the kicker on the 22nd matchday, after his performance in the 5-1 win against FC St. Pauli . For the 2009/10 season , Schäffler's contract was extended to 2012. During this season he only made ten short appearances under coach Ewald Lienen . In total, he only played 130 minutes for the first team, for the second team he played 16 games. In summer 2010 Schäffler was awarded to league competitor MSV Duisburg for the 2010/11 season . There he was used in 21 games and scored four goals, with his first goal for the Ruhrgebietsverein on matchday 20 against the Munich Lions. After he returned to Munich in the summer of 2011, he was only a substitute player there, as before the loan. Until the winter break of the 2011/12 season he was used 14 times, but only came on in the second half. In addition to a goal in the 2nd Bundesliga, he scored another for the second team in the Regionalliga Süd, for which he appeared three times. Schäffler had played a total of 57 second division games for the Lions , in which he scored five goals. He played in the DFB Cup three times . For the U-23 he came to 50 missions in the regional league, where he scored 16 goals.
FC Ingolstadt
At the beginning of January 2012, Schäffler switched to league competitor FC Ingolstadt 04 , where he signed a contract until 2014. On the 29th matchday of the 2011/12 season he was voted into the "team of the matchday" after his performance in the game against Alemannia Aachen . Overall, Schäffler was mostly used as a substitute at the FCI. On January 31, 2014, he canceled his contract, which had been dated until the end of the season, and moved to Holstein Kiel in the 3rd division .
Holstein Kiel
With 10 goals in 37 games, Schäffler played his part in reaching the relegation place for the promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga from the league representative from Schleswig-Holstein in the 3rd league season 2014/15 . After his 3 goals in the league game against Halleschen FC on the 14th matchday, he was chosen as the player of this 3rd league game day by the kicker. In the following season , which was not so successful for Kiel, he was mostly used as a substitute and scored 3 goals.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden
In June 2016 he switched to league competitor SV Wehen Wiesbaden. After a successful 2016/17 season with 13 league goals, his contract was prematurely extended by one year to 2019. He scored 11 of his goals this season in the second half of the season and, as the best scorer of his team, had a large share in the fact that the club, which was still threatened with relegation after the first half of the season, was able to hold the league. After being elected to the “Eleven of the Day” due to his performances after the 23rd and 25th matchday, he was elected player of this matchday of the 3rd division on the last matchday after his 3 goals in the game against FSV Frankfurt . In the following season 2017/18 he was next to Stephan Hain and Benjamin Girth one of the most successful goal scorers in the league in the first half of the season and reached third place in the table with his club halfway through the season. For his achievements he was voted "Player of the Day" of the league by the kicker on the 11th and 14th matchdays. Schäffler continued to play successfully in the second half of the season and was reelected as the player of the respective match day on the 30th and 36th matchdays. At the end of the season, SV Wehen Wiesbaden took fourth place in the table, to which Schäffler had contributed with 22 goals and thus became the top scorer in the third division. In the 2018/19 season , the SVWW came third and prevailed in the subsequent relegation against FC Ingolstadt, Schäffler scored 16 times this season. He then extended his expiring contract with SVWW for another two years. In the second division season 2019/20 Schäffler scored 19 goals, but could not prevent the direct relegation of the SVWW to the third division.

He then moved back to the 2nd Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg in mid-August 2020 .
National team
Manuel Schäffler was on call for the U19 European Championship in the Czech Republic in 2008 , but was not nominated again. On September 3, 2008, he played his first international match in the test match between the German U20s and Austria. In 2009 he was part of the German squad at the Junior World Championship in Egypt . He was used for the German team, who were eliminated in the quarter-finals, four times and scored one goal.
