The participating clubs 2012/13

The 2012/13 season of the 3rd division was the fifth season of the single-track third-highest German division in men's football . The season began on July 20, 2012 and ended on May 18, 2013. From December 17, 2012 to January 24, 2013 - between the 22nd and 23rd match day - the season was interrupted by the winter break.

VfL Osnabrück secured the unofficial title of autumn champion after the first half of the season with 40 points.

On November 23, handed Alemannia Aachen in Aachen District Court an application to initiate insolvency proceedings one after the club had this announced on November 16th. With the simultaneous announcement that if the procedure was not opened , Aachen would also voluntarily withdraw to the Regionalliga at the end of the season , and Aachen was the first to be relegated to the Regionalliga West . The Aacheners kept the game going; At the beginning of March 2013 it was even considered to remain in the 3rd division - by applying for a license for the 3rd division. The number of relegated athletes would have decreased from three to two in the event of a withdrawal from Aachen or a refusal of a license by the DFB . On the 36th matchday, Alemannia Aachen was the first sporting relegation. One game day later, Karlsruher SC and Arminia Bielefeld secured direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . On the last day of the match, KSC also secured the championship. On the same day, SV Darmstadt 98 was relegated in terms of sport, but stayed in the league because Kickers Offenbach 's third division license was withdrawn, which meant that they were relegated to the Southwest Regionalliga. The SV Babelsberg 03 dismounted to Regionalliga Northeast.

Anton Fink from Chemnitzer FC and Fabian Klos from newly promoted Arminia Bielefeld shared the title of top scorer with 20 goals each . Fink is the first player to secure the title of top scorer for the second time.
