Marco Grüttner (born October 17, 1985 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German soccer player . The striker is under contract with SGV Freiberg .

Career

The son of the former senior league keeper Raimund Grüttner began playing football at GSV Erdmannhausen and switched to SGV Freiberg when he was young . With Freiberg Grüttner reached the final of the DFB Junior Club Cup 2003/04 . On the way to the final, the Freiberg A-Juniors defeated the youngsters from VfB Leipzig , Karlsruher SC and SV Werder Bremen , before the final against Hertha BSC was lost 5-0.

In the summer of 2004, Marco Grüttner moved to SG Sonnenhof Großaspach in the Association League Württemberg , where he played in the regular eleven and at the end of the season won the championship with the team and was promoted to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . After he played another season for Großaspach in the major league, Grüttner joined the TSV Schwieberdingen club . There he was the top scorer in the association league with 24 goals and made a significant contribution to the promotion of his team to the major league, as he also scored three goals in the 3: 2 and 1: 2 in the promotion games against TSG Weinheim and also scored in the decisive penalty shoot-out.

After the year in Schwieberdingen, the striker moved back to the upper division SGV Freiberg, where he broke his foot after a successful first half of the first game after the winter break and had to pause for several weeks. In the 2008/09 season , Grüttner scored 25 goals and was the top scorer in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg. For the 2009/10 season, Marco Grüttner moved to the regional league team SSV Ulm 1846 . There Grüttner had four different coaches in six months and although he made 15 regional league appearances and four goals in the first half of the year, he was only allowed to play the full 90 minutes seven times.

During the winter break of 2010, he then moved to league rivals VfR Aalen . With Aalen, Grüttner became champions at the end of the season and was promoted to the third division . He also won the WFV Cup with VfR Aalen with a 4-1 win in the final against FV Illertissen , which qualified them for the first round of the 2010/11 DFB Cup . He played his first professional game on July 31, 2010 when he came on as a substitute for Ralf Kettemann in the 78th minute of the 1: 2 against TuS Koblenz on the 2nd matchday of the third division season 2010/11 . As a result, he was both in the league and in the 1: 2 defeat in the DFB Cup against FC Schalke 04 in the Aalen starting lineup. On October 5, 2010, Grüttner clashed with substitute goalkeeper Marcel Wehr during training in a duel in the air, so that he had to be given emergency medical care on the field and then taken to the clinic. There he was diagnosed with a skull fracture, which is why he was out until mid-January 2011. For the 2011/12 season, Grüttner moved to the regional league team Stuttgarter Kickers , with whom he signed a two-year contract. After Stuttgart II was relegated to the regional league, Grüttner moved to third division club SSV Jahn Regensburg in summer 2016 . With the club he rose to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2016/17 . Grüttner was involved with 13 goals in 36 missions.

In September 2018, Grüttner was named the fairest professional footballer of the 2017/18 season by the DFB .

The striker, who has been the team captain since the 2017/18 season, stated in November 2019 that he would leave the club at the end of the 2019/20 season and return to his home country. Even in his last season, the Swabian was still a regular in the attack of Jahn and with eight competitive game goals among the most important offensive forces. In the end, the now 34-year-old had 48 goals and 25 assists in 141 games.

After the season, Grüttner returned to SGV Freiberg as an amateur, with whom he had already signed a contract at the end of February 2020.
