Regionalliga 2011/12
3rd division 2012/13

The 2012/13 season of the Regionalliga West was the fifth season of the regional football league as the fourth highest division and the 16th of the Regionalliga West in Germany. Due to a league reform that has been carried out, there are no longer three seasons of a regional league in the 2012/13 season , but five equal leagues from five associations. Hence the now fixed league allocation of the teams depending on the association membership. The sponsorship of the leagues has been transferred from the DFB to the regional and state associations. The regional league clubs no longer receive television money. An originally planned upper limit of a maximum of seven second teams of the DFL clubs was rejected by the state associations. Second teams from clubs in the 3rd league may play in the fifth division (Oberliga) at the most, while third teams also generally have no right of promotion to the regional league.

After the dissolution of the NRW League, three leagues with Oberliga status were formed as a substructure for the Regionalliga West - the Middle Rhine League , Oberliga Niederrhein and Oberliga Westfalen .

Sportfreunde Lotte secured the championship title with 86 points, which is seven points ahead of SC Fortuna Köln . The Cologne team had secured the unofficial title of autumn champion with 41 points. With the championship title Lotte qualified for the promotion games to the 3rd league , in which the Westphalia failed in two games against the northeast representative RB Leipzig .

The relegation ranks were occupied by VfB Hüls , SV Bergisch Gladbach 09 , the second team of MSV Duisburg and FC Kray . The Wuppertaler SV withdrew voluntarily from the regional league due to a prospective application for the initiation of insolvency proceedings , whereby the second team of 1. FC Köln subsequently managed to stay in the league .

SV Lippstadt 08 and SG Wattenscheid 09 rose from the Oberliga Westfalen as well as from the Oberliga Niederrhein the KFC Uerdingen 05 . There were no promoters from the Middle Rhine League. Alemannia Aachen was relegated from the 3rd division .

The Wuppertaler SV operated under the name Wuppertaler SV Borussia until an extraordinary general meeting on May 24, 2013 .
