Promotion to the 3rd soccer league

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The article ascent to the 3rd soccer league lists all promotions and promotion rounds for promotion to the 3rd league since it was founded in 2008/09 . The mode of promotion to the 3rd league was changed when the number of regional leagues in 2012 increased from three ( north , south , west ) to five ( Bavaria , north, northeast , southwest , west).

mode

In the first four years, the top three of the three regional leagues rose directly to the third division.

Since the 2012/13 season , the three promoted players in the third division between the five regional league champions and the regional league runner-up, whose region has the most clubs and members in the DFB (currently southwest ), have been promoted to three matches in Hin - and return leg determined. The fixtures will be drawn from the same pot, with a duel between the two south-west clubs being excluded. The games will be played in European Cup mode with a return leg. If two teams have scored the same number of goals in the two games, the away goals rule applies . The three winning teams move up.

In particular, due to the criticism of the promotion regulation that a team could not promotion despite very good performance in one season and a successful championship, a temporary change was decided for the year 2019. From the 2018/19 season, four teams will be promoted to the 3rd division. The champions of the Southwest and Northeast regional leagues each provide a direct climber. With the western champions, another direct climber between the champions of the other regional leagues was drawn. The two remaining champions (Bayern, Nord) play the fourth promotion place in the first and second leg.

In the following season 2019/20 , the three direct promotion places go to the Regionalliga Südwest and to the two regional leagues that played the promotion games in the previous season, while the other two meet (Northeast and West). This is only a temporary solution until the next DFB Bundestag 2019, for which a working group formed by the DFB Bundestag in December 2017 under the leadership of Peter Frymuth is developing a proposal on how the five regional leagues can be reduced to four leagues so that all regional league champions can ascend directly.

In September 2019, the DFB Bundestag decided to reform the promotion regulation from the 2020/21 season, in which there will still be four promoted players in the third division. The regional leagues west and south-west each provide a fixed direct promoter, another direct promotion place is awarded according to a rotation principle between the regional leagues north, north-east and Bavaria. The representatives of the two remaining regional leagues determine the fourth promoted player in play-offs with a return leg.

In March 2020, the DFB Presidium decided on the details of the new promotion regulation. In addition to the champions of the regional leagues Southwest and West, who always have a direct promotion place, the champions of the northeast relay will be promoted directly in the 2020/21 season. In the 2021/22 season, the Regionalliga Bayern will be the third direct climber. The northern relay will receive the third direct promotion place in the 2022/23 season.

1The 2019-21 season of the Bavarian Regional League is to be continued from September 2020 at the earliest - without Türkgücü Munich , which was reported as a promoter to the 3rd division 2020/21. Following the season, the four best teams that apply for a license for the third division are to contest a play-off tournament in spring 2021, the winners of which will then take part in the promotion games. A 2020/21 season should therefore in fact not be held in Bavaria.
