The Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion is a football stadium in the medium- sized town of Völklingen in Saarland . Named in 1994 after the former DFB President Hermann Neuberger , who was born in Völklingen, it is the fourth largest stadium in the state with a capacity of approx. 6800 seats (594 of which are covered and approx. 6200 uncovered standing). The stadium is the venue of the SV Röchling Völklingen football club . The 1. FC Saarbrücken plays its home games during the renovation of the Ludwig Park stadium since 2016 also in the Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion from.

history

The original stadium was built in the early 1930s. A running track surrounds the playing field. The main stand, which is still standing today, was added in 1955. A further expansion on the occasion of qualification for the 2nd Bundesliga doubled the capacity to around 16,000 seats in 1974. After a renovation, which also included the installation of a floodlight system, and a reduction in the standing height in 2007, the capacity was approx. 12,000 seats, including 600 seats; since the last renovation in 2017, 6,800 places have been specified. The attendance record dates back to October 26, 1975, when SV Röchling Völklingen played 0-0 against 1. FC Saarbrücken in front of 16,380 spectators.

The Hermann-Neuberger-Stadion is the venue for 1. FC Saarbrücken during the renovation of the Ludwigsparkstadion . The contract runs from February 2016 to summer 2018 with an exit clause. The financial framework to adapt the Neuberger Stadium to the requirements of the regional league was given at around 70,000 euros.

On March 5, 2016, 1. FC Saarbrücken played their first home game in the Völklingen Stadium against FK Pirmasens . The FCS won the game 1-0.

In the 2019/20 season , 1. FC Saarbrücken played its games in the DFB Cup in Völklingen .
