Dugesia tigrina ( Syn .: Girardia tigrina ), the spotted strudelworm , also tiger planarie or tiger strudelworm is a strudel worm (Turbellaria) of the genus Dugesia that was probably introduced to Europe by aquarists . Dugesia tigrina is assigned to the water quality class II - III (critically polluted) with the saprobic value 2.2 .

features

Dugesia tigrina becomes up to 18 mm long. The color is mottled brown to gray, the underside lighter. The two eyes are surrounded by a wide, white, pigment-free ring. You stand a little in front of the widest part of the triangular, arrow-shaped head.

distribution

A native of North America, the species was at the beginning of the 20th century (first record in 1931) to Europe introduced . Today it is also common in Italy, Spain, Russia and Japan. In 1993 the species was also discovered in Lake Constance. Dugesia tigrina is found in stagnant and slow-flowing waters; this species does not occur in springs and clear streams.

Multiplication

The species can reproduce sexually or asexually. In Europe, probably only asexual reproduction through division. In North America also sexual reproduction .
