The AOK Stadium is a football stadium in Wolfsburg . It was opened in 2015 and replaces the VfL Stadium on Elsterweg as the home ground for the women's and youth teams of VfL Wolfsburg . The AOK Stadium has 1,700 seats and 3,500 standing places. It is located in the Allerpark in the immediate vicinity of the Volkswagen Arena and the VfL Center. The VfL football world is also located in the building.

history

In July 2012 it was announced that Wolfsburg AG would build a new stadium in Allerpark for VfL Wolfsburg. Among other things, this should offer the women's team at VfL Wolfsburg a better environment. So far, she has been at home in the VfL stadium on Elsterweg and won the German championship , the DFB Cup and the Champions League in 2012/13 . Women's football should be further promoted by the new building. The Allerpark , where the Volkswagen Arena is located , was chosen as the location for the AOK Stadium . Wolfsburg AG acted as client and project manager and is the owner of the stadium. Strabag and Züblin were commissioned with the construction of the AOK stadium, and the groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 30, 2013. It took place in the presence of representatives from VfL and Wolfsburg AG, VW works council chairman Bernd Osterloh and Wolfsburg mayor Klaus Mohrs . The total budget for the new construction of the AOK Stadium, the neighboring VfL Center and the surrounding facilities was around 30 million euros.

In March 2014 it became known that the construction work on the AOK Stadium could not be completed as planned for the 2014/15 season, but only for the second half of the 2015 season. As part of the work on the new AOK Stadium, the new training spaces for football players were opened in 2014 and goalkeeper erected. In the middle of the year it was announced that the AOK Niedersachsen would give the new stadium its name. The health insurance company secured the naming rights for five years. Most of the construction work on the stadium was completed by September 2014 and the outdoor areas were then laid out.

The AOK Stadium was inaugurated on January 23, 2015 with a friendly game between VfL Wolfsburg and Karlsruher SC . In this context, individual media criticized the fact that the men's and not the women's team played first. At the same time took the VfL Center in operation, where, for example, training, meeting, fitness and therapy rooms of professionals as well as the offices of the Board of VfL Wolfsburg are. Since the beginning of 2015, the VfL football world has also been based in the premises of the AOK Stadium. This is an interactive exhibition about the association. In June 2015, the roofs were also attached to the three standing room grandstands, after only the main grandstand had previously been covered. This completed the construction work on the AOK Stadium.

After the AOK Stadium was initially only the home of the women's team and the U23s, the VfL U19s have been playing their home games there since the beginning of the 2016/17 season, especially in the A-Junior Bundesliga North / Northeast .
