Klaus Dieter Mohrs (born June 27, 1952 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg ( Lower Saxony ) since January 1, 2012 .

Life

Mohr grew up in Koblenz and made at the local Eichendorff-Gymnasium its High School . He studied sociology , psychology , pedagogy , social pedagogy , philosophy and political science at the Koblenz University of Education until 1976 , graduating as a qualified pedagogue . He worked for 3 ½ years in the youth center movement and headed the House of Youth in Neuwied .

In 1980 Mohrs came to Wolfsburg and was elected city youth worker there. In 1990 he took over the management of the city's youth welfare office and in 1999 was appointed to the administrative board as city councilor for youth, social affairs, foreigners, and the clinic. In 2001 he was promoted to the First City Council, since then he has been responsible for the departments youth, school, integration, clinic, personnel, sulfur bath and was general representative of the Wolfsburg mayor.

In 2011 he was chosen by the Wolfsburg SPD as a candidate for the office of Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg after the previous Lord Mayor Rolf Schnellecke ( CDU ) had announced his early resignation at the end of 2011. The election for mayor took place on September 11, 2011 together with the Lower Saxony municipal election. Mohrs was elected with an absolute majority of 63.1%. On January 1, 2012, he took over the office of Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg.

Klaus Mohrs is married and has two children. His son Falko Mohrs has been a member of the Bundestag since 2017.
