UEFA Women's Champions League 2011/12
Stamford Bridge - the venue for the final

The 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League was the twelfth draw of the European championship competition for women's football clubs and the fourth under this name. 54 teams from 46 countries competed for the title. The competition began with the first qualifying round games on August 11, 2012 and ended with the final on May 23, 2013 at London's Stamford Bridge Stadium . The VfL Wolfsburg secured in his first participation in the title by a 1: 0 final victory over the defending champions Olympique Lyon .

Attendees

46 national champions and the runners-up from the eight strongest national associations took part in the 2012/13 UEFA Women's Champions League. The UEFA five-year rating was used to determine the eight strongest national associations . The 14 national champions of the strongest regional associations and the eight runner-ups receive a bye and only intervene in the competition in the sixteenth finals. The remaining national champions must first take part in a qualifying round.

mode

First, the clubs from the 32 worst-placed associations play ten participants in a qualifying round for the main round, in which 22 other clubs are added. The games of the main round up to and including the semi-finals are played in the first and second legs. The team that scores more goals in both games will advance to the next round. If both teams score the same number of goals, the number of away goals decides. If the number of away goals is the same, the second leg is extended. If both teams score the same number of goals in extra time, the away team wins due to the higher number of away goals scored. If no goals are scored, the match will be decided on penalties. The final will be decided in one game. In the event of a tie, extra time follows and then, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out.

qualification

The qualification draw took place on June 28, 2012 at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The eight mini-tournaments were held between August 11 and 16, 2012. The eight group winners and the two best runners-up qualified for the sixteenth-finals, in which the seeded teams and the runner-ups intervened in the competition. When determining the best runner-up, the game against the respective bottom of the group was not taken into account.
