The Birmingham City Ladies Football Club is an English women's football club from Birmingham . The club is affiliated with the men's football club Birmingham City . The team has been playing in the FA Women's Super League , the highest league in England, since 2011 .

The home games are played at Damson Park in Solihull .

history

The club was founded in 1968 by female Birmingham City fans. In the first few years the team only played friendly matches at the local level. In 1970 the club joined the Heart of England League, which in 1974 became the West Midland Regional League. In the seventies and eighties, City was champion of this league five times and won other trophies.

Financial problems arose in the early 1990s. It was decided to found a youth academy and to focus more on its own offspring. In 1999 City became a founding member of the Midland Combination Football League and was instant champion. After two seasons in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division (second division), promotion to the House of Lords, the National Division, was made.

In the meantime, the youth work had borne its first fruits. Laura Bassett became the club's first national player . In 2002 City reached the final of the Premier League Cup . The 7-1 defeat against Fulham FC is still the highest defeat in the history of the final. For the 2004/05 season City strengthened with several players. The season ended in fourth place. However, financial problems occurred again, so that some star players left the club. In the 2005/06 season City took sixth place. In 2011 and 2012 they became English runners-up in the FA WSL and qualified for the Champions League , where they reached the sixteenth finals in 2012/13 and made it to the semi-finals in 2013/14 , where they failed to Tyresö FF .
